Healthy Early Childhood Services
Achievement Program
Glen Iris Child Care & Kindergarten have successfully achieved Victorian Government recognition for all six health priority areas of the Victorian Healthy Early Childhood Services Achievement Program.
Health Priority Areas
The Achievement Program is a government framework designed to create a healthy learning environment and support the health and wellbeing of everyone at an early childhood service. It focuses on six key health areas:
-
Healthy Eating and Oral Health
-
Physical Activity and Movement
-
Mental Health and Wellbeing
-
Sun Protection
-
Safe Environments
-
Smoking, Vaping, Alcohol, and Other Drugs
Each health area has a set of targets that, when achieved, lead to positive changes in the service's physical environment, policies, practices, and health-promoting activities. When we meet all the targets within a health area, we receive recognition in the form of certificates and a sticker that is proudly displayed on a special sign outside our service.
In addition to these core areas, the Achievement Program has recently introduced a new key health area focused on climate action. This area, titled Climate and Health, encourages services to take steps that address climate change while promoting the health and wellbeing of the community. After all, to be healthy, we need to ensure the planet is healthy, too!
