VEYLDF
Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework
At Glen Iris Childcare and Kindergarten, our teaching practices are guided by the 8 key principles of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). This framework supports early childhood professionals to collaborate with children, families, and each other to achieve the best possible outcomes for every child.
We believe that play is essential to a child's development. For this reason, we implement a play-based learning program that aligns closely with the VEYLDF. By providing a rich variety of materials and experiences, we offer children opportunities to explore, discover, and build on their knowledge. We value uninterrupted play and encourage children to take risks, make choices, and develop independence. Each child’s learning and development is assessed through an ongoing cycle of planning, documentation, and reflection.
The 8 VEYLDF Principles that guide our practice are:
-
Reflective Practice
-
Partnerships with Families
-
High Expectations for Every Child
-
Respectful Relationships and Responsive Engagement
-
Equity and Diversity
-
Assessment for Learning and Development
-
Integrated Teaching and Learning Approaches
-
Partnerships with Professionals
Each room within our centre has its own monthly program, designed around the interests and developmental needs of the children. Educators observe each child closely and tailor experiences to extend their learning. Our Educational Leader, in collaboration with our team of Educators, has developed a program format that promotes children's agency, independence, and active exploration.
Our learning environment includes a blend of indoor and outdoor play experiences. We are fortunate to have a spacious outdoor area that supports the development of both fine and gross motor skills. Wherever possible, indoor activities are moved outdoors so children can enjoy fresh air and natural surroundings, including the shade and beauty of our large, leafy trees.
At Glen Iris Childcare and Kindergarten, we are committed to fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive.
