Glen Iris Childcare and Kindergarten - Kinder 3

3-4 Years

Our 3-Year-Old Kindergarten Room accommodates up to 27 children per day and follows a 1:11 educator-to-child ratio. The program is led by a qualified early childhood teacher, who is supported by a team of qualified early childhood educators, ensuring that each child receives the attention and guidance needed for their development.

Our Kindergarten Program

Our 3-Year-Old Kindergarten Program operates all day, Monday to Friday, offering flexibility for families. To qualify for funded kindergarten, children must attend at least 5 hours per week. This means children need to be enrolled for at least one day each week. Children must also be turning three by April 30th of their 3-year-old kindergarten year to be eligible. Families are welcome to choose which day(s) they would like their child to attend, subject to availability. Children who access their Funded Kindergarten at Glen Iris will also receive their very own “Kinder Kit”, a special set of resources to support their learning journey.

Our Kindergarten program focuses on fostering self-confidence, problem-solving skills, self-esteem, independence, and skill development. The Kindergarten teacher leads the program, using the children’s current interests and areas of strength and need to shape learning experiences. We value each child's voice and provide opportunities for them to express which activities they would like to explore throughout the program.

The daily routine in the Kinder Room is relaxed and flexible, providing a balance of spontaneous and planned learning experiences. The environment is engaging and aesthetically pleasing, offering both indoor and outdoor activities that introduce key concepts in areas such as literacy, mathematics, science, music, environmental education, and creativity.

Our spacious outdoor area offers children a wealth of opportunities to explore nature, engage in sustainability practices, and develop important physical skills. They have access to areas for active play, as well as spaces for quiet, solitary play. Educators plan both small-group and whole-group experiences, both indoors and outdoors, to promote cooperation and build essential social skills such as turn-taking and sharing.

Although the children are now in Kindergarten, they continue to benefit from the nurturing, all-encompassing environment of the childcare centre. This includes catered meals and the opportunity to interact with children of all ages, fostering a sense of community and social connection.
